Second Day

Ended my day 1 with a big fat trigger last night. My wife, who was very understanding and supportive yesterday morning, reacted to me as though I am repugnant last night. Perhaps yesterday morning was just the calm before the storm.

Anyway, who can blame her? My behavior has been repugnant, even if deep down I am a nice guy. :-)

Normally, I would save up my hurt feelings and start planning my next drunk. I don't want to live like that anymore. Hopefully day 2 can feature me starting to learn another way.

Fake it 'til you make it, right?

Wednesdays are good for me. I take a class at the University after work on Wednesdays. It's very interesting course material, and I haven't had a drink on a Wednesday since the class started last November.

Finally doing a little research on AA meeting schedules. There seems to be lots of good options near where I live.

The most convenient one is a 0630 group that meets at a church right on my way to work. Obviously convenience isn't everything, but it counts for something.

My concern is that my urge to drink is (by far) strongest in the evenings - so maybe an evening meeting would be more effective. On the other hand, if I went in the morning, I could still go to another meeting in the evening if I felt the need.

Just go to as many as you can fit into your schedule. There are nothing like meetings in early sobriety. Make an active attempt to get to know the regulars as they will be a life line in recovery

I just remembered something that happened a few years ago. Sober as a Saint that day. I was being medically screened for an overseas job, and was given a lung capacity test. The medical tech was yelling emphatically (right into my ear) blow harder! harder! Well, I blew so hard I actually passed out. I went down like a ton of bricks and gashed my head on a filing cabinet.

I remember very vividly as I was coming to that my first thought was, "Oh, ****! where am I and what was I drinking to get me into such a state?" I just assumed I had a blackout drunk. It took a few seconds before I remembered where I was and what I was doing.
