YAY!!!!!!!!!!!! Hope, I'm really happy for you. I went to rehab and it was THE BEST THING I EVER DID FOR MYSELF!!!! I learned so much about myself, and things I was unsure of, I found truths, it was like being reborn a whole new me.

Just FYI... you may experience some people there that don't really care to be there, remember ALWAYS why you're there, for you. So just in case you meet a couple of "downers" while you're there, stay the path. To thine own self be true.

I hope you bookmark us and come back and tell us how you did and how you're feeling then. Maybe even find this post and add to it? Good luck Hope, I do wish that it changes your life for you in the most positive way. :ghug3

This is the best news I ever hear on SR. When people just say they're quitting, it's often a nail-biter. You have the beginnings of a success story.

Do you have any ideas about how you are going to follow up after rehab?

Cold fusion, as a nail biter myself, I investigated rehab but couldn't tell my boss about my problem. I am worried about keeping my job if I tell them I am an alcoholic going into 2 weeks of rehab. How is it people do this? Some people might be supportive, but other might get suspicious and watch out for slip ups as an excuse for termination. Advice welcomed.

Thanks so much everyone! I'm pretty much scared of the whole idea, but I am walking through the fear. I am so ready for a healthy future.

I can speak from personal experience, but if there is a way that you could take personal or sick leave, jump at the chance. Addiction is a health issue so you could try to take leave without going into all of your details. Addiction always gets worse. I spent a lot of time 'functioning' ( yeah right) but ended up losing both of my jobs which has gotten me into my current predicament. The sooner anyone addresses their addictions, the better. It never get better out there.

I'm so happy for the support. I feel so alone sometimes. It helps to know that people care about me.

Rehab got my feet on the ground in 1989.

AA has kept my feet on the ground since then.

All the best.

I totally support your decision and know how alone and scared you can feel in your position. Keep your eye on that target date. Rehab was life-saving for me. I hope you achieve success and find what you are looking for!

All the best - treatment got me on the road to sobriety. Haven't had a drink since. As long as you're going for yourself, then you'll be ahead of the game. In treatment, I found those who were there because of family, work, court, etc. never or rarely made it. Do it for you. Good for you.
