My business was flooded today
Like completely flooded. Massive cleanup to come, not sure where to start
But I didn't use. Or drink. I thought about it, felt it threatening to break me. But I'm actually glad I'm sober to deal with this. Just for today anyway.

Midlife, I'm sorry, I know that's going to take a lot to get cleaned up and hopefully you can get your business back in order without tons of complications. Good for you for not picking up.
Curious, what happened?

MLC, so sorry that happened to you. But you are right, having a clear mind and body makes it so much easier to deal with the storms in life (literal and figurative).
I feel ya, dude. On my fourth day sober I had RAW SEWAGE back up into my basement, completely flooding it. It was pouring in through one of the pipes. By the time we got someone out from the Township to shut it off (it was Labor Day) I had 2-3 inches of standing CRAP in my basement.
At 10 pm that night a neighbor (who had literally waded through the crap with me that day) showed up at my front door and put a cold beer in my hand, saying, "I thought you could probably use this."
Time stood still as I tried to figure out whether to take it and dump it after she left (thankfully decided that was a bad idea). And I said, "No thanks, I'm OK, I'm just going to bed." She meant well, she did not know I had quit drinking.
It took days to clean up the damage, it cost me thousands to repair, and I lost some irreplaceable things (e.g., my late mom's wedding dress). But I didn't drink.
That incident got me through a lot of rough times in the months to come while I was in early sobriety. Keep hangin' in!!

Though I realize it's no fun cleaning up the mess. Sorry about the destruction caused by the flood Midlife. Were I not thousands of miles away I'd come help you clean up. Well, with you in mind, anyway.
