LOL,

Careful, we have a few people who weren't so happy about it. (Not that I'm one of them... )

What I like to see is that great crowd of folks stretching all the way down the Mall from the Capital to the Lincoln Memorial. And the high school marching bands from all the different states. All those young kids, so proud to be marching down Pennsylvania Avenue. One thing is certain. Whoever happens to become the President, whatever a person's political views may be, there is one thing we have that's distinctly and gloriously American. And it's right there on the Mall, thousands and thousands from all over. This is their country. This is what it's all about. Lincoln, in his white marble statue looking down on them, may be smiling and saying to himself, "Yes, Government by the People, for the People...."

That's OK, I talk to my 84-y/o dad in Arizona every week or so. I get the other side of the aisle on a regular basis.

The USA is forever!

I think 321 is referring to her own personal four-year sobriety pledge here--it's nothing political.

"Make no little plans. They have no magic to stir men's blood and probably themselves will not be realized. Make big plans; aim high in hope and work, remembering that a noble, logical diagram once recorded will never die, but long after we are gone will be a living thing, asserting itself with ever-growing insistency. Remember that our sons and grandsons are going to do things that would stagger us. Let your watchword be order and your beacon beauty. Think big."

Daniel Burnham, Chicago architect. (1846-1912)

This belongs in the cafe central forum. Seriously having Obama around for 4 more years is a trigger for me. Totally inappropriate post.

Discussing politics and/or religion is fraught with conflict... Maybe this could be moved to another forum since it doesn't have to do with recovery.

Yes, I agree this post has no place in a Newcomer's to Sobriety forum. I'm not American, but like the rest of the world, vaguely like Obama. However, there were 60 million people who voted against the guy and a post like this is just waving a red flag in their face.

HereIam, no worries. I don't like the guy, didn't vote for him, but I don't hate him either and I'm not going to drink over it. To be honest Romney would be worse, so my vote was going to a loser regardless.

Still this belongs in Cafe Central.

I live in DC, so we have really felt a part of this. It makes me so happy. My mother on the other hand, is ready to move to Canada. :-)

You usually just hear, "Make no little plans. They have no magic to stir men's blood..." Daniel Burnham designed Washington Union Station, among other great structures. President Obama used this quote when he pledged to develop high-speed rail.

Does your mother realize we have universal health care, strong social support and educational systems, and solid gun control?

The vast majority of Canadians are super happy the Obama's are still in the Whitehouse. Hope the House can stop obstructing some of his wonderful items on the agenda for the next four years!

Well done to all who voted for him!

Politics gives me the urge to drink.

I'm glad you are enjoying yourself, though.
