Hi everyone
New guy here. I have been going back and forth on trying to give up drinking for a while and know I need to. I had made it almost a month and then drank last night. For the past few years I was hiding it from everyone and drinking too much. After I realized what I was doing again I stepped back from it and stopped hiding it and just drank socially. I know I need to stop all together though, so I am happy I found this site.
Welcome sdg. We're so glad to have you join us.
I'd been trying for a long time to quit when I found SR. This was the perfect place for me - so much great advice, hope, and encouragement. You can do it!

Sdg- I just joined today also. Still trying to navigate (technology is not my forte).... I also was sober 2 years then decided to play the drinking game....you know, ODoulls.....a little Bailys Irish Cream on ice....you know "classy stuff". Before I knew it, I was right back to where I started from. Just keeping it simple. But, boy does it feel good not to have hangovers again!!!

this site can be a great help
hey sdg, longtime relapser here. I'm working day7 tomorrow. My one close brush with success was about a year ago when I stayed sober for almost 3 months.I attribute much of that to the help I found in SR. This site gave me a release. I live in a remote location and seldom talk to anyone but my pets (sounds pretty healthy I guess). Even when I did not post, just reading over some of the ponderings of others was helpful. I am giving SR another go and hoping I can forge a more successful outcome this time. So, hang with it and best of luck to you in this battle we all share.
Hi SDG - welcome, glad you are here.
SR is a great place to be. For those of us who are alcoholics, we can't drink.
One of my favorite quotes comes from the book Drinking: A Love Story by Caroline Knapp.
When you question your alcoholism, you say to yourself: If I am an alcoholic, I shouldn't drink and if I'm not an alcoholic, I don't need to. That's a nice piece of logic. You say: People who aren't alcoholics do not lie in bed at two-thirty in the morning wondering if they're alcoholics. A good reality check.
I always loved this as it really brought it home for me.
We are here to help you, so reach out.

Welcome! I've been around for a short 2 weeks andSR has helped me tremendously! I don't know the last time I have gone this long without a drink.
We had an "old friend " at our house today being his usual tactless. Classless self. Rather than listen to him criticise everything I hopped right on here and ignored him straight to his face
Good luck in your journey! This is an amazing place to start.
