Day 13 Mates Birthday
Day 13 Mates Birthday
My mates are going out tomorrow one of my friends Birthday.
I'd like to go out but I just feel some of my friends won't understand why I'm not drinking and will just say "it's my/his Birthday one beer won't hurt come on"
Do I avoid?

Hey straight,
Yes. Miss it. It's far too risky for you to lose the sobriety you have. If you really wanted to go could you perhaps suggest a meal you could all go to first, with a bit less pressure, and then skip the drinking bit?
Natom.

It's my immature bit of me that's saying "you dont wanna miss out, just don't drink it's easy"
I'm not sure whether I need to get new (not completely new) friends, cause the friends I have have always been drinking friends we've all been drinking since we've been 15

I had that immature voice too - it's nonsense
it's one night down the pub where after an hour everyone else will be 3 sheets to t'wind and you'll be bored and want to go home - what's to miss really?

You have a choice to make.
Your friends cannot force you to drink, regardless of how much they want you to drink...that choice is yours to make.
You've been sober less than two weeks. Ask yourself how bad you want sobriety and if you answer that, you'll have your answer as to what you should do.

Have you thought about telling one of your friends Ste? It might make it easier. And if they are heavy drinkers they may understand. Alcoholism is like that big unmentionable. Maybe telling them would be helpful to more than just yourself x
