I think I hit my limit today. I've was fired from my job at 14 days sober. I have $74 to my name. My water tank died last Wednesday. I had someone I know in AA look at it this morning and it's a goner. And I can't afford to have it fixed. So I'll be living in the 1800s for now.
I've spent almost a month applying to jobs with absolutely no response. Nothing.
I can't take anymore. The only thing holding me back from drinking right now is the fact that I can't afford it. I did see light at the end of the tunnel a few weeks ago but it's dimmed so much I can't see it.
I'm also trying to avoid my sponsor. I love her but she's had nothing positive to say to me. On the job front I hear from her: "expect to be without a job for at least 6 months".....On the water tank I hear "yeah, good luck with that". She also made it clear that I was not welcome to come to her house if I needed a shower.
I still go to AA meetings every day and try to focus on the positive. It's great for an hour but when that hour is up, my reality is still there. I have no one to ask for financial assistance. It's an extremely lonely feeling.
I finish with group therapy this week and it's terrifying to me. Once it's over I have all day, every day with myself. TV is out of the question - I cancelled service because it's not a necessary expense. I limit myself to 1 AA meeting a day because I can't even afford to put gas in my car.
I did allow myself to cry for a bit this afternoon. I needed to reel it in though because if I let myself cry too long I won't get back to any chance of sanity.
At 40 days sober, my life has gotten significantly worse. I do realize that drinking isn't the answer but it sure would help to pass the time.
I'm sorry to the blubbering. It's been an exceptionally hard day, especially after finding out there's no hope to repair the water tank. It feels like the last straw.

I'm so sorry all of this is happening to you. I think everything you are feeling is normal and natural given the circumstances. I don't really have any advice except to keep plugging along and use and and all supports you can get.

I think you might want to think about looking for a alternate sponsor, A sponsor should not make us feel bad when times are tough (Of course a Sponsor should not enable us either but to offer nothing but negative comments in times of trouble is not a good sign of a sponsor in my opinion) Perhaps there are other meetings you can go to where you can find a temporary alternate sponsor.

Almost $6 million in funds is being provided to 20 local organization and charities. The money will be used to prevent evictions, help with monthly rent, and also to find housing for anyone who is currently homeless. These twenty local agencies will be providing these grants for both families and individuals who are at risk of becoming homeless or being evicted. The funds can be used for a variety of services, and can be used to help pay for and offer both security and utility deposits, pay for short and medium-term rental assistance, regular and monthly utility bills, offering motel vouchers, and also give moving cost assistance. The program even helps people reduce their debt and improve their credit ratings, from debt management plans and other services.
If someone is currently homeless, the grants can be used to help coordinate, arrange, monitor and deliver housing-related services. This is fairly broad, and can include legal services, outreach and engagement, help with developing individualized housing plans, credit repair and counseling, as well as housing search and placement services.

Community/ Neighborhood Centers operate in most cities and towns in the county. The centers offer the low income and local residents with a variety of services, including case management and limited financial assistance, to community members living within set boundaries. When funds are available, clients and families in crisis situations may apply for help with paying rent, utilities, heating bills, or transportation. Specialists at the centers can also help in applying for federal and state of Indiana government assistance programs.

The non-profit law firm of The Indiana Legal Services, Inc. helps seniors as well as low-income individuals. It provides free advice on civil legal problems such mortgage and foreclosure problems, domestic violence, child abuse, landlord/tenant evictions, mortgage defaults, government and public assistance programs such as TANF, Medicaid, Medicare, SSI, SSD, food stamps, unemployment, health insurance and medical care, special education, predatory lending, consumer fraud, fair debt collection practices. Another firm that provides many of the same pro bono legal services as indicated above is the Indianapolis Legal Aid Society. They really help with many of the issues indicated immediately above, including free mortgage help and foreclosure counseling. Call this firm at 317.635.9538.
Foreclosure assistance in Indianapolis
Neighborhood Christian Legal Clinic (dial (317) 429-4131) provides housing and debt assistance on issues such as foreclosure, mortgage delinquency, renter assistance, loss mitigation, Government Housing Choice Voucher Program, public housing, money and debt management and reduction programs, fair housing and homeless assistance programs.
Momentive Consumer Credit Counseling Service is a HUD approved agency that provides information and guidance to people who have questions about their mortgage documents, who need foreclosure or mortgage help, or have foreclosure issues such as how to stop, stall or avoid a foreclosure filing on their home. Most consumer credit agencies can direct people to a wide number of mortgage assistance programs. Call the Indianapolis based agency at (866) 722-9248.
Free food
Second Helpings (p: 317.632.2664) provides perishable and nonperishable free food and groceries which is then prepared by volunteers into nutritious meals and distributed by local charities and non-profit agencies. Other places to turn to for free food or a pantry include Christ United Methodist ((317) 882-1549), Brightwood Community Center (dial (317) 546-8200), Community Caring and Sharing (phone (317) 243-8023), and St. Timothy Episcopal Church (phone (317) 784-6925). SoberFallon, I know it seems bleak, but it will be so much worse if you drink. But I think you already know that. Do you have any friends or family around? Is there no one you could ask for help...maybe a short loan.....a bag of groceries..... a warm shower? I know in my town, and at my church, we have a manna pantry that is absolutely free to anyone that asks. If they need it, and we've got it, they get it. Have you looked at different church organizations? The Salvation Army? A local shelter ....(I'm just throwing out ideas as they hit me.....) Why not check out your local library....lots of free stuff to do and read there.

I don't know much about sponsors, but I would look for a new one. Their responses do not seem helpful or supportive.
Can you do something like babysit that would bring instant cash for gas,etc.?

Soberfallon, do you have a University degree? If so, you could consider going overseas to teach english in an Asian country, especially Korea. The company pays for your plane ticket, apartment and will usually give you a loan once you arrive. Just a suggestion.

Thanks for all of the ideas! SeekSobriety, I don't live in Marion County but I will definitely research services offered in the county where I live (I'm just west of Indianapolis in Hendricks County).
I think the babysitting, pet sitting, etc. is also an excellent idea. I live in a smallish subdivision but I'm surrounded by 2 or 3 much larger subdivisions. It would be pretty easy for me to make up flyers to put into mailboxes. That would really help with gas expenses and food expenses. I'm not a big eater so I don't blow through food easily and a little can go a long way. I've been pretty much living on PB&J sandwiches and a lot of pasta.

Thanks for all of this very valuable information! The last thing I want to do is have my 2 little kitties suffer. They've only offered love & support to me. And they really warm up my lap on these very cold days and nights!

Sounds like you are in a good neighborhood to pet, baby and house sit....... I don't need baby sitters these days, but I pay my pet sitters very well. It's worth it to me. You sound like a pet lover, so this may be good for you. Make up those flyers!! Keep us

Sapling, I was on Step 8 when I relapsed. We're now starting back at the beginning. I do this with my sponsor on Wednesday nights.
I have learned my stumbling block was actually Step 1. I understood that my life was unmanageable but I wasn't accepting the powerlessness.
I'm stubborn. I went through the steps but it the back of my mind I wasn't willing to concede a victory to alcohol. I viewed this as a weakness.
Now, I am a firm believer that I am indeed powerless over alcohol. I never did win against the Beast. And I never will. It took me 2 years and one helluva relapse but I finally get it.
