Hi John,
Exercise. Serious, almost fall down, exercise. I love my sobriety and that it has allowed me to acheive a level of fitness I used to just dream of as I drank. Now I am able to work out very hard. Gives me release and ability to sleep like a baby.

May take three or more days from when you quit. But when you finally do sleep it may be very refreshing. Then watch out for the "pink cloud". That "I'm O.K. I'm not really an alcoholic. I can control it" feeling. That voice deep down in the "lizard" part of your brain trying to get the alcohol back! Give in to it and you're back in deep s--t!

I just dont worry about whether I sleep or not anymore. I came to this realization a while back during one of my previous half-assed attempts at sobriety - it's that tossing and turning all night because I have insomnia might cause me to be exhausted the next day, but that exhaustion is actually a far more comfortable and manageable feeling than being hungover even though I got 8 hours of sleep. I actually feel better with zero sleep the next day than if I drank myself into a blackout by 10pm and slipped into an alcohol coma until the alarm clock went off. Eventually, you will sleep due to pure exhaustion. If not, depending on how you feel about medicating, there are OTC and prescription sleep remedies to look into, though I realize there are many who would choose to avoid that as well. Anyway, from an insomniac, I wish you luck finding rest.
