This started as a limerick
Hi all. I was gonna write another limerick on the thread but it turned into a poem. I'm new to this and this just kinda came to my head while laying here dealing with another restless (but sober) night as I start this journey of sobriety. I hope you guys enjoy it.
I lay here longing for sleep
Remembering promises I didn't keep
For in these shadows I have lived for years
Unable to smile immersed only in tears
Through my cries I hear a voice
It says follow me you have a choice
With shaky legs I try to stand
That's when the the voice also has a hand
As I reach out I feel the chains break
Is a true cry for help all it would take?
As I begin to stand my eyes open wide
I see I am not alone in this great divide
There are many others young and old
Whose stories have yet to be told
Out of the darkness we begin to see
We no longer have to feel that it must just be me
I lay here longing for sleep
Remembering promises I didn't keep
For in these shadows I have lived for years
Unable to smile immersed only in tears
Through my cries I hear a voice
It says follow me you have a choice
With shaky legs I try to stand
That's when the the voice also has a hand
As I reach out I feel the chains break
Is a true cry for help all it would take?
As I begin to stand my eyes open wide
I see I am not alone in this great divide
There are many others young and old
Whose stories have yet to be told
Out of the darkness we begin to see
We no longer have to feel that it must just be me
