newcomer to recovery
Hello everyone,
I just joined sober recovery and I stay connected to my program more when I am actively involved.
I have been drinking with problems for about 5 years if I have to be honest with myself. My consequences were dire: dui(2nd), loss of friends, injured myself multiple times--fell and chipped a tooth and another time fell backwards and cracked open my skull, disorderly conduct besides all the self destructive behavior.
This year as I was comitted to recovery, I was sober for 90 days and relapse and 90 and relapse. I wasn't drinking but I wasn't sober. I was working the programs that I follow. Now I have jumped into it. So I will consider this day my start as part of this group.
I hope to contribute as well as learn from all of you.
Merry Sober Christmas!
Gigi

I had trouble at the 90 day mark also, multiple times (with and without AA) I would always seem to drink again at about that point in the beginning. I found that focusing on others was what got me to 120 days. I have encountered a number of other people who have a very difficult time at the 90 day mark as well. It’s good you have noticed this. You can now take extra care during that time frame. Best wishes
This is definitely the right place for you. Welcome!!
I have been sober for 6 years now, and I just recently joined this site myself. I did not have to, but I chose to. Even at 6 years I still need the support. The difference is now, I can help others that were/are in the same boat that I was.
Any help/encouragement that I can give you will be my pleasure.

I just wanted to say that I started day 1 today 12/26/12 on a long journey I have ahead of me to stay sober. I am new to the forum so I wanted to see if it will help me in ways that I am unable to myself.

Thanks for all the welcomes.
Sapling,
I am working the steps and I am still looking for a sponsor.
In addition, I belong to Women for Sobriety and attend two meetings a week with that group. I also am reading some type of recovery book everyday.
Any suggestions about getting a sponsor? I don't feel like I know the people in my Chicks at Six well enough and they don't know me. It's a pretty big group.
Thanks for your concern.

Welcome to the family gigi. I came crawling in here 5 yrs. ago and never left. The people here helped me get sober and stay that way. I never thought I could do it, after drinking my whole life.
You never have to go back to that dangerous & unpredictable way of life. It's such a relief to be rid of it. Congratulations on your decision.

Hi and Welcome Gigi,
You sound like you are committed to the program, good to hear. AA got me sober and SR is a daily support for me. Staying sober is a daily even hourly program for me, the obsession has passed thank God, but I must maintain a spiritual balance or I will lose what I have.
Looking forward to you being a regular here
Love
