Unhappy Sugar n carb cravings

Help! I have only been sober for a day, again after falling off the wagon about a month ago. I have intense sugar and carb craving when not drinking. Any advice?

Eat .... spoil yourself chocolate , lollies, icecream, jelly anything..... just eat .... have a supply of healthy snacks around nuts, seeds yoghurt etc
Drink .... herbal teas ....cups of soup...... juices .... water.... anything but alcohol

Don't worry about the calories just eat ... your appetite will settle down ..

Simply by not drinking you are removing heaps of empty calories from your diet ... hence the body wanting to replace them with sugary foods .... EAT !!!!!!!!!!!

And when you feel up to it probably in a few weeks .....walk

Good Luck

Those cravings are very common.

Most of us go with them - the prevailing thought is whatever we're eating is not nearly as bad as what we have been doing to ourselves as drinkers.

If your diet is a concern for you, though, then you'll have to dig a little deeper and eat healthy instead...but, in any case, the phase doesn't last long for most of us

Try not to worry too much would be my advice

Don't worry about it. I remember that my intense sugar cravings dropped off quite suddenly a few months in. I had a massive appetite too and made sure I ate really healthy food but I ate lots of chocolate too. If you don't want to eat chocolate though maybe try dried fruit or other healthy naturally sugary food x

Sugar craving is only in the beginning. I ate a lot of dry fruit. High in natural sugar. Dry apricots are very good for you.

I'm a week in and my appetite for all things carbs and food has never been so much! But you know what? I'd rather satisfy the hunger that is being triggered from the lack of alcohol than drink. I can exercise, cut back and all that good stuff later ... I can't get my liver or my life back... Carbs? Calories? Bring it!

Lulu - I'm right there with you - I feel like a grazing cow. But you were right- I can always diet, can't repair continued damage to my body from booze.

I got a pocket full of candies and ate them as I was walking to my AA meetings.

All the best.
