Hello
I am a newbie here and like many of you here I hope to stop my drinking. My partner is a non drinker and I would like to be the same. I am more of a binge drinker and I do go weeks without a drink. I find that when I am with someone that drinks, with my family, or if I am stressed That is when I do most of my drinking. I have done this since I have been 15yrs of age I am now 52 and I really do not like it. My drink of choice is white wine, when I do this I do it mostly at home and I do not drink enough to have a hangover. Well last night I went to my families Christmas party I drank about 7-10 glasses of wine. My partner does not like me drinking at all one drink and she will consider you drunk. We have been going round and round about my drinking. The ironic thing is before we arrived at the party she told me she did not mind if I drank, we'll that was all I needed she was driving so I guess I took as having permission to drink. Today on the other hand was a different story she was very upset with me. Not because I was obnoxious or anything but, the fact was I had a drink in my hand at all times. So, I have decided to stop my drinking cold turkey and will keep my fingers crossed that in a month I will not need that drink. I have too many family members that have or had an alcohol problem I just do not want it anymore. I will take pleasure in reading the posts and finding new friends that are good for me. Wish me luck, I will do this for me and no one else. Thanks for reading this.

Welcome aboard..
I remember my step mother having to ask for me to put my hands down at holiday parties so she could get a picture without a drink in my hand. I always had one even in my sleep often..
You found a great place for support. Keep reading and posting.
Merry Christmas

Hello, and welcome. I'm glad you found us.
I, too, in every holiday picture of my old self have a drink in my hand. I can laugh at it now, but in my sisters wedding picture I have a beer in one hand and a mixed drink in the other. A regular two fisted drinker.
Today is two years without a drink for me. You can do it too.
Wishing you the best.

Welcome to the family, Cyndy! I was a slow learner, but I finally got it that I couldn't touch the stuff. Bad and dangerous things always happened.
