Quick Sober Message before the Holidays
Quick Sober Message before the Holidays
Just a quick one:
It only takes a second to make a mistake... but it takes weeks or months, if ever for some; to repair the damage. Our family and friends may be at a loss with us at times due to our drinking and/or drugs. But it is not their fault nor is our unlucky ease that we slid into addiction our fault... How we manage ourselves with this disease is our responsibility that we cannot manage with halfhearted efforts. Stay vigilant!
DO enjoy the holidays with your family and friends... the joys of living in sobriety greatly exceed the buzzes that alcohol and drugs could ever create without the heartache and train wrecks that booze and drugs leave in our wake.
Merry SOBER Christmas and a happy New Year! No matter what you have, you have to be thankful for it!

Great message, cheers, meeting up with old friends at a pub for lunch, it's a 80 mile round trip sp I'm playing the "think I might be coming down with a cold and I'm driving anyway card" might raise a few eyebrows but at day 22 today, I'm not backing down!
Thanks for the reminder. We bought alcohol last night for family party here tonight. I smiled at hubby and said I'd never trade my six months and how I feel now, for a holiday drink. I got festive non alcoholic stuff for myself and will put into a nice goblet. Will send left over stuff home or dump it down the drain

Its worth saying the same thing twice, when it comes to the slops.
Great post C4. Hope you have a nice holiday!
That's a very good point about it sometimes taking months to undo the damage.
While drinking we tend to think "only a couple won't hurt" while conveniently forgetting that only a couple can get you arrested which you could be paying for for years.

Thank you for this! You're so right - repairing the damage from a mistake is miserable. In my case, I went off for years once - just because of the decision to have 'a few' one night.
Have a lovely holiday, C49999.

Thank you all for the kind replies and good luck to you!
The next couple of days can be the most challenging and rewarding days of the year that if we stick to the right plan we then show ourselves and those around us that we really are good people in spite of our challenges.
Merry Christmas and happy 2013!

UPDATE: Christmas this year was the best one yet. I have been sober on Christmas for the last bunch of years which made Christmas good for me and my family... but now as my sobriety has become more solid I can only say that EVERYTHING has gotten better.
It has taken a long time for things to get right again and even when the choices made in the name of sobriety have been hard or frustrating, they were the RIGHT choices and God has my back too
Looking forward to 2013!!!
