Sleeping a lot???

I'm in my second week sober and all I want to do is sleep. It seems no matter how much sleep I get at night I wake up tired and just drag through the day. I've been to the dr for a full check-up recently so I know that everything is okay there. Is sleeping so much normal during early recovery?

Thanks!

Blossom,

it was for me. I was sleeping 10 hours at night, taking naps during the day. It felt like my body was making up for decades of poor sleep.

Congratulations on your sober time!

Yes. Others can guide you to literature on this, but you can be dragging and feel in a fog for several weeks. It is just a sign of your body starting to recover.

Yes, I felt the same. I just advise going with it and taking rests whenever you need them. Soon enough your energy will return. Congrats too, by the way!

Sadly, yes. Took weeks for my body to get enough sleep and a bit longer for the head.

It will get better hang on in there and congratulations on your soberiety.

My psych prof in college explained it best. Your brain is like a bank. If you don't get enough sleep, the brain will store it and collect later. It's just your body catching up.

I went through the same thing. Treat yourself to naps if you are able to find the time. Sort of a nice reward for making a good decision. It is hard though if work or committments don't allow you the rest that your body is craving. The good news is that I only remember it lasting a few weeks. I also tried to remember all my tired, achy hung-over mornings or nights where I went to sleep (or passed out) very early.
Sober tired is much better than drunk tired anyday!
Congrats on two weeks!
