The Wisdom Of Popeye
Not sure why I was thinking of Popeye last night but I realized that his favorite saying has a lot to do with me and with recovery.
"I am what I am and that's all that I am."
This is so true! Right now I am what I am. The sum total of all my decisions and actions. No way to change it. Here I sit and I am what I am. Nothing more and nothing less.
I'm sure even Popeye would agree that:
"I was what I was."
Can't deny it and can't change it. Matter of fact, I have to own it and be responsible for it. Make ammends, deal with the consequences and learn then grow from it.
Now for the fun part:
"What I will be is up to me and my HP." (wow....it even rhymes!)
Starting now and now only, I can make decisions and take actions that will define what I will be. In my case, I believe my HP knows what is best for me and has the perfect plan for me. My goal is to submit to that plan and then try to stay out of the way and not screw it up. I need to:
"I am what I am and that's all that I am."

Do what I know is right. Make good decisions. Take good actions. Have faith.
As long as I stay sober, there is absolutely no limit to what I can be regardless of what "I am" and regardless of "what I was"! There is hope in this realization and I am grateful.
