keeping busy

day two here. besides SR forums, internet, and tv I'm really at a lost as to what to do with my time. it seems I'm too anxious still to even leave my room. I'm afraid it will just led to drinking.

I may be jumping the gun and worrying about nothing but what got some of you through the first few days?

I went to an AA meeting and for an hour I had peace. The rest of the time I filled my schedule with anything as long as it was not me being trapped in me.

Get outside and walk, enjoy the fresh air. It helped me enormously.

It's hard to find something to do when what you want to do is drink.

I spent a lot of time on the computer researching alcoholism, addiction, and forms of recovery. Watched a lot TV, which distracted me from my obsessive thoughts about drinking.

For those first couple of days, I stayed in my comfort zones and avoided anything that might prompt me to pick up.

doggonecarl:that line has inspired me. altough the urge is there to drink, I've learned from many relapses that I must resist this urge and don't make any rationalizations or i will be waking up three days from now back at the beginning. I will not let this happen. I will STAY sober.

I am researching recovery options feverishly and am learning a lot and think I am closer to finding the program for me

Went to a lot of AA meetings at first. Between that and actually starting to take care of all of the responsibilities around the house and at work that I should have been doing all along, I didnt have much time to be bored.
