My First Post - Binge Drinker
I hope by posting this it will ease someone out there just starting what I have been through the last 30 days, this site and forums have helped me through a lot of my panic attacks and stress that something major might be wrong with me and that I'm dying!
I stopped drinking 29 days ago today. I'm 25yo male and I have been binge drinking almost every night for the last five years. I would drink a minimum of 10 beers every night and most nights take a few shots with the first few beers to really get me going. On average I would drink 12-15 each night, sometimes 18 on the weekends. I got a terrible burn in my right kidney one night and had my wife take me to the hospital, blood work and everything checked out fine, but i had Gastritis Stomach. Hence I decided enough was enough. The day after my hospital visit i went to my family doctor because my anxiety was through the roof and my blood pressure was high, so he gave me a very low dose of xanax to calm me down. My first attempt to quit lasted about 5 days and gave me horrible pressure in my head behind my nose, so i panicked and drank like hell for another week, while taking the xanax..... something weird happened the last day I had four beers and got so depressed and down, I have never felt that low before in my life. (maybe the alcohol mixed with the xanax? not sure) That was the last I quit cold turkey.
I have terrible panic attacks, drymouth, left eye blurry, pressure in my head, neck aches, cold sweats... Its been rough. Stress and anxiety are part of my daily life now (sometimes really bad). Also about 10-12 days ago I started getting headaches, first ones were severe, then they got milder, and the last few have been like a burning headache. I did go two days without a headache this week.
I stopped taking the xanax for 5 days then had a major panic attack and started back again, I quit again two weeks ago and made it seven days but then had to start taking them again for another panic attack.
Yesterday being day 28 was the first and only day since I quit that I had a urge to get a drink. I also quit dipping snuff cold turkey the same day I quit drinking and I don't think that helped at all. (Snuff for 7 years)
I have lost 22 pounds since day 1, I exercise at least 5 days a week for 30 minutes, and I drink tons of water. Hope this helps someone out there and wish me good luck!!!

BigRooster, congratulations on not drinking for 29 days - awesome! Xanax is extremely addictive and it might be worth returning to your doctor and describing your symptoms. Maybe a psychologist might be able to help with your anxiety and panic attacks..
Good luck.
Good luck.
Wow wow wow man. Great post. It was a frenzied "I'm dying" panic attack that made me suck it up and quit, too. You are very inspirational to guys like me that are a week in. Thank you for this post, bro!
And keep the good work! You owe it to yourself, and your wife needs ya.

congrats on your progress so far... Watch out for the benzos they are very addictive (this is not medical advise just a fact). I would discuss it with your doctor, perhaps there is an alternative. In any case always follow the advice of your doctor. I have been on klonopin for a year (similar to xanex with a longer half-life, it was prescribed for insomnia) but it has been very hard to get off of and when I quit cold turkey or run out because I'm not a person that is into taking any medication I get pretty severe anxiety. I was almost tapered off completely (using the advise of my doctor) when I started drinking again a few months back and now I'm afraid to do anything until I get some sober time under my belt again so I am back taking it as prescribed by my doctor. Like I said I am not a doctor and I hope I'm not breaking any rules by posting this I am simply saying be careful with the benzos...
Congrats again on getting off the booze that is awesome!!!!
