Good decision. Especially if you care about losing those relationships.
Give us a bit more background of your drinking career and we can provide better advice. First and foremost, quitting can be dangerous depeding on how long and how much you drank, so if you start to feel really bad get to a doctor.
For me the first 7 - 10 days were the worst part. After that clarity sets in and things started to return to relatively "normal". Stay here and read about what many of us have gone through. Learn about the mechanisms of aclohol and addiction. The more you know, the better you will be prepared.

I have struggled with alcohol for a long time. I try to give it up and I just fail again and again. I know its not rational to keep doing this. I make a commitment - I will never drink again and I will never change my mind. Hard part is I don't feel supported in this decision. Im shamed by it. Alcohol is the huge issue in my family
I moved another post you made to this forum - it was getting lost in the other thread.
it depends - for some its a day, for others it's a few days...for me by the end it was a week.
Things will get better - hang in there

How long does it take to feel better once you stop drinking

Treat yourself as if you have a stomach virus, your body needs to heal.
If you can eat a "real meal" of meat, veggies and a little mashed potatoes, do it. Eat healthfully. Sleep or rest. Drink water. Your body needs to heal.

Protein is good. Keep on in there. It is a cliche but it will come in time and if it is meant to be it will happen. Agree lots of water. But no alcohol flavoured stews, etc. The alcohol burns off but the flavour is still there. You need to find a drink you like that is not alcoholic.

I made a veggie drink and that seems to be helping along with ginger tea. Plans for after these physical symptoms are past are to honor my commitment to never drink again and never change my mind. I am starting yoga again and think that will help me finding balance and healing.
