Anyone a gambler?
Hello, I've never done this before, but here goes. I have a gambling problem that began this past summer. It might be caused as a side effect of a medication I take. I'm working on alternatives but until them, I've got to learn to control the gambling. Its destroy me and my family.

Gamblers?
My first post didn't show up. Please help. Are there any gamblers out there? I began gambling this summer and can't seem to stop. I have to stop. Its destroying me and my family.
Oh yeah I am a gambler too. Mostly online though, which almost makes it more widely available (poker n such). Many medications that I have taken have put me in a manic state which lower inhibitions. That is an excuse, though, because I was still accountable for my actions.
There are options and resources to help recover from this addiction, too. A lot of support as well, because in the end, addiction is addiction and we all have suffered from the same hopeless feelings. You are not alone!

Gambling and alcoholism often go together, and the combination has ruined many people. When I stop drinking, I usually lose all interest in gambling, but when I'm drunk I can lose serious money.
You're quite correct that it could be the medication that you're taking. L-dopa and similar drugs have been linked to gambling and sexual activity.
It's great that you're aware of the problem. In addition to seeing your doctor you can also put limits on your losses/deposits if you're playing online, cancel your credit cards, and take as many steps as you can to limit your losses. You may still have the urge to gamble until your medication is sorted but if you're playing for small amounts you won't get hurt too badly.

I never had a gambling problem, but I sure can't go to a casino because of the drinking that goes along with it. Friend of mine is an alcoholic/compulsive gambler. He went to GA for gambling and AA for alcohol. Both programs he's worked very successfully.
I'm new here but everyone is helpful and supportive here as well. Best of luck!
