Fatty skin

Hi,

Read one of yours posts and it said I could PM you - which I decided to do.

I used to be a social drinker for maybe 4-5 years, before I got more and more of a binge drinker. I used to find more social situations to drink and then drink 8-10 pints per session.

Then the drinking got severely worsened specially the last year, where I now take time of work, start drinking heavily for days, even weeks, before I come off.

Not has been one of them and I´ve decided that I have an alcohol problem, in fact I´ve become an alcoholic and are now on detox @ a hospital since i had been vomitting so much in my last session that I needed to go in to get IV and shots of B vitamins.

I´m on day 3 now

Now I´m noticing that my skin is letting out fat, specially in my face (which is constantly layered with a fatty layer, even after I dry away, it comes back not long after).

Same with inside of my hands.

Is this a symptom of something I should be worried about? Like fatty liver, cirrhosis etc.? Tried googling it and can´t find anything about.

Appreciate any feedback.

Hi JSean

I've never heard, or experienced that - unless you mean like waxy skin?
have you seen a Dr at all? might be the best way to go?

If you're replying to CarolD's introductory PM she's not here right now but I know you'll find support here - welcome

Not quite sure about this one. I'd say speak to a doctor about it. I'm not a doctor, though I played one through self-medication to myself for a long time.

Gotcha.

Unfortunately it could be indicative of many things, and none of us are Doctors here Jsean.

I think it's worth getting checked out by a professional, just to put your mind at ease.

I haven't experienced or heard of it, sounds like you have had a tough few days I would definitely talk to your doctor.

Looking forward to seeing you on here.

Found out that its due to a shortage of Thiamine after you mentioned waxy skin.

How do I treat that? Anyone had that?

It's also symptomatic of diabetes and many other things. You could spend a day on 'Dr Google' and not get the right diagnosis

I hope you'll find it's something simple and easily treated

I now know what it is and its a serious lack of Thiamine - which by the way is very serious and can be fatal.

It shows us all how serious drinking can be, still I´ve ignored it and thought that as long as my liver values are ok at blood tests - than carry on I can.

I felt the same way Sean, but there are a lot of other things than liver damage caused by alcohol. Have you seen a doctor? Might be good to get your vitamin levels checked. x
