New & Ready

Greetings all! I've been lurking on this board for the past month or two. A bit about me: I've recently completed a 6 day hospital detox. Previous to this I had 14 months of sobriety. I relapsed about 6 months ago and I became so deep into it I couldn't find my way out. This relapse resulted in me one small step from being in a coma.

I have a renewed and energized outlook on long term sobriety and hope you join me (as I join you) on this difficult but satisfying effort. I recall what it feels to be sober and it simply can't beat being intoxicated.

I also seek some support. No family in town and no friends. I need some friends for this journey!!

Welcome Sober,
Reading your post makes me realize we must be vigilant.....14 sober months was a long stretch. I quit in June. Glad you survived your relapse and found us. There is a ton of support here - keep posting.

Congrats on your 17 months!!!! Excellent work!

I worked the AA program and the steps to achieve my past sobriety. I stalled at the 9th step. I can recognize now that it was fear that made me jump ship. So, unfortunately, I became confident that I could moderate my drinking. Uh....nope. It came back worse than before.

I'm now committed to work the program. I see now many of my defects that I just wasn't willing to face. But I know AA works, and that's where home is.

In the meantime, I'm enrolled in a partial hospitalization program for intensive treatment. I will do this in conjunction with AA and work with my sponsor.

It works if you work it...But you know that. Sounds like you know what you got to do...You don't lose that 14 months...And you never have to drink again. Look forward to sharing your journey with you...Glad you signed up.

Hi Sober and welcome to SR!

I wish you luck in long term sobriety as that's my goal once again. The moderation thing absolutely does not work for any of us. I gave it a shot a couple months ago and everything went totally south.

You'll find tons of support here
