Leep moving forward. The more days sober you get under your belt the less you will think about it.

So much of drinking/using is a habit. We have our routines and when we first get clean we miss those routines. The longer you stay sober the more new routines you can make and then that's one less battle you need to fight as you work on yourself.

you can do this!

Habit is right. I found myself just going for it like a knee jerk reflex at 5. On weekends, generally. Not really any thought to it.

Tonight, i fixed myself a seltzer, pomegranate, OJ drink, and put it in a pretty glass and I am making a beef stew. I totally have myself fooled. It is about holding the glass and sipping something yummy. I am fine.

We can do this!

I completely understand about wanting the wine! Rochele that sounds really good! I have taken to drinking ice cold Ginger Ale or white grape juice .... it's just habit and the thing missing from my hand!

Stay strong guys! We can do this!

I was on line at the grocery store earlier and the lady in front of me had for bottles if Pinot Grigio and two bottles of Champagne (both my favorites) the man behind me had two bottles of hard alcohol. I had a chicken, broccoli, and potatoes, and now I am at my daughters ballet class.

I will admit seeing that wine made me want a glass(or bottle). Life was easier when grocery stores didn't sell alcohol!

2 isn't enough for me.

Feelings aren't facts. Life often is blah. We can get through it, sober!!!!!

Big hugs,

Well I'm screwed eating a low fat muffin with low fat peanut butter and low fat jelly and a zero calorie sports drink.

Thanks for the encouragement! I made it through the night sober. I was super cranky and I had to go to a dinner party where booze was flowing...but I made it. Seems a bit easier this time around bc I have decided to totally quit and not try to moderate. Good luck everyone!

Melly, that sounds so hard!!! A dinner party with booze. I am so proud of you for making it through that, I don't know if I could handle that.

Rochele, WOW! You are so super mellow, I am super impressed with how you are handling it!!!

The drink in the pretty glass does make a difference. I am jonesing for some sparkling mineral water to jazz up my drinks. I do notice I drink fast. My little fancy non-boozy cocktails that I make for myself, I slug them down just as fast as I used to slug down my wine.

Eight days is huge. Not moderating is great because the cravings continue to slowly get easier to deal with. 8 days in a row without a hangover starts to feel like a pretty decent routine, doesn't it? I ate a lot of candy in the first couple of months, especially Tootsie Pops. I also drank a lot of seltzer water. It really helped. I still can't go through the wine aisle without craving a drink. Funny, I was a beer drinker and wine was the only alcohol that I could drink as recommended.

I certainly *thought* I wanted a couple of glasses of wine yesterday too. I couldn't sort out if I *felt* like wine, or if it was habit, so I said nah, I'll pass. 5 days sober here, wooohooo! The little voice was telling me - what's one glass, but come on - it would have been one bottle. And probably the big bottle.
