Red face Engagement party tonight

Hey all,

A dear friend of mine is having her engagement party tonight; this woman has supported me throughout my recovery & I'm surprised that she's stuck around as long as she has. I'm grateful for that, but I'm feeling tentative about the occasion. There's one individual who will be there & likes to remind me of when I met him. That I was drunk, fell over and hit my head. We've had that one-sided conversation about 4 times.

Other "problems"? I've been sick since Monday and feel really quite disconnected from my higher power, not even entirely lucid Today I feel OK. Not spectacular, just OK.

I have an escape plan, my sponsor knows where I'm going
and I have about 10 people I can call. I'm actually taking antibiotics, so there's one potential excuse lined up

I'm just feeling tentative as this is the first time I've been at a biggish event in awhile over my 6 months of sobriety :/

Hi Quinne. Glad you reached out. I think you'll do fine, because you've anticipated the things that might happen and are dealing with them. As for the person who unkindly brings up that incident - how pathetic he must be. You can rise above it and have a wonderful time - let us know how it went.

Thanks everyone!

I put my AA coin in my pocket before I got there and felt a tad anxious beforehand, but I actually had a really good night No temptation, very little discomfort and no comments from anyone else; the guy who actually had a habit of bringing up that drunken incident didn't say anything and actually helped me down the stairs to the bar (coke, thank you!), only because I was wearing a pair of ridiculous heels

What I'm slowly learning is that everyone there was-and is-on my side-no need to be on the defensive

Xx

Quinne, your post helped me, because I don't know what I will do when I have to face a night out. It's only two weeks for me, so I feel okay with turning down invitations for now. Thanks for sharing your strategies.
