5 days sober
Hi, this is my first post, I have been a severe alcoholic for over 3 yrs andhave tried to detox on my own many times thru various methods, herbal remedies, meditation, etc. And. Made it to day ten once. I finally went to my doc and came clean, andhe said he felt I could do medical detox at home since he believed I sincerely wanted to quit drinking. He put me on a 4 week treatment of librium and naltrexone, I'm doing way better than I ever have before shakes are minimal, no heart palpatations. I feel achey all over tho like I have the flu, I got chills but sweating profusely. I have no desire to drink thank god. Has anyone ever used this treatment before? And if so did it get better or worse? Did it help? Thank u for listening.
Welcome and I'm sorry you're feeling poorly. But congratulations on day five.
I can't give you any medical advice, but call your doctor if things get worse would be my best advice.
Just remember, drinking isn't going to help.
I'm glad you're here and please keep posting.
Best to you.

I have used both of those drugs. Be VERY careful not to drink with either of them. I mean very careful. Naltrexone is a blocker so you will drink a lot more without the same effects. They help the withdrawal effects but neither helped me quit. Hopefully they are short term for you.
I'm on day 34 and I'm on Naltrexone and have found it helps with the cravings, but it is not a magic pill by any means. Lithium is common for the medical aspect of detoxes. I too had detoxed at home MANY times...worst in the world. So, in terms of meds, you're on the road to recovery.
But, If you are serious, I would highly recommend going to meetings everyday. I'm doing 90 in 90 and never in a million years thought it would benefit me but they do. Even if it's just because I accomplish something every day and I'm not lying to myself and I'm active in my recovery. It does something good for us early in recovery. Try to do that and write me back and let me know how you feel! Congrats on the sober days so far!

All I can say is I'm 5 days sober from heroin and it is a real nightmare at times with the sweats and the achy, tired body. Not to mention my mind seems to exist is some kind of permanent fog lately. Big surprise. I've been killing myself with alcohol and drugs for 15 years. It took time for us to get to this point, and it will take time for us to heal, but we will if we don't pick up or use right?
I think you're a miracle. Way to go.
Also, coming clean with the doc - awesome. Brave. Shows you're really serious about it this time. Keep us posted on your progress. People care about you here.
