Things that make you happy in sobriety

I just made a 114 point word in words with friends. I am stoked!

One is that I don't have to crawl across the floor because I can no longer walk.

Being able to join in family conversations without trying to pretend I'm not drunk. It never worked anyway.

Not having to plan every waking minute around alcohol and, in doing so, always feeling like such a liar and a fake .. Every day: getting money for more booze (cash, so the liquor store wouldn't show on bank statements) .. trying to use different stores through the week so I don't look like I have a problem to store employees (ha) ... hiding booze at home .. drinking it in secret (home and work) .. breath mints and gum .. Visine .. trying to act normal .. getting behind the wheel, knowing I shouldn't ... fear ... and at the end of each day being sure there's enough to get me through the night and into the next day .. and getting up early enough the next morning to allow sufficient time to throw-up the first drink, get one down, and time for several visits to the bathroom (sorry, tmi) before going to work.

Exhausting.

..... Sobriety = Complete freedom from that insanity.

Waking up well rested, not being too hungover to exercise, always knowing that I am treating my loved ones right...rather than wondering what I said or did to them when drunk. Life is great

Mulch you stole my post ;-)

To be with my 6 year old son, and actually be there. And the extra years with him, if god allows me

Oh and I call my 92 year old mom every morning when I wake up and it is sober everyday talk. And my sister called me this evening and I wasn't slurring. These are a few of my favorite things.

The real, high quality sleep and feeling rested in the morning.

And being able to eat pretty much anything without gaining weight, now that I'm saving probably 500-1000 calories a day in drinks.

Being able to stand close to somebody without worrying about my breath giving me away.

Good sleep.

Coffee.

Playing with my dogs.

Just everyday life.

Feeling like there are more hours in the day and the week, more time to do things I enjoy...

Clear head-able to think again, less stressed. More able to deal with the tough stuff.

Living with my mom during her final days on earth, clear minded. Actually taking the time to play with my 6 year old daughter and waking up feeling great.

I am actually there for my kids, instead of a vegetable in the room.

Lol your awesomeness shines straight through my screen Furnaceman!

I absolute love the 1-2 hours of morning that I now have. I read, potter about, paint my nails etc. All things I never did because I had a foggy brain, dry mouth and banging head most mornings. My snooze button is covered in dust now!!

Great thread Elisabeth! Just what I needed to read as I woke up for yet another AWESOME day.

Same here.

And I'll add reading to the list. I love reading SOOOOOO much now that I remember what I've read, and finish the books.
