Deadly Dose with Sanjay Gupta

Tonight @ 8:00PM EST on CNN - Sanjay Gutpa has a documentary called Deadly Dose regarding the prescription drug epidemic.

I am glad this topic is being addressed.

Not trying to be funny here but why do you all want to watch this?
It's not going to stop your loved ones addiction.
It will probably make you worry more.
I do not see the point...
Personally I wouldn't bother.

My understanding is that the documentary includes things that can be done on a governmental level to deal with the problem, including efforts that former president Bill Clinton is taking. This is not a story about one or two individuals and their problems with addiction, but how we as a society got ourselves into this mess.

For me it's more about educating myself.. Even though I'm divorcing my AH I'm still very interested in learning as much as I can about addiction... Because I'm never ever ever gonna be with a substance abuser again... Ever!!!!

Thanks for posting this ((LMN)) - I'm going to watch it. I know I'm fully incapable of convincing my stepmom to stop her potentially deadly addiction to opiates, but I still like to be educated on such things.

Hugs and prayers,

Amy

I hope you don't take offense to this but weren't you blaming your own DR on this substance abuse thread because you are now addicted to codeine??

Thanks for the headsup LoveMeNot.

I am very interested in this topic and I agree that prescription drug abuse is an epidemic.

And, Sanjay Gupta is brilliant.

I told my dad about the show, he thanked me but isn't interested. Guess it's time to remember I can't change HIM, either, huh? He'd rather live with his head stuck in the sand and only "deal" with stepmom's pill addiction when she's passed out on the floor.

Oh well, ONE of us in this family is willing to learn more

Hugs and prayers,

Amy

Ah i see.
Kind of similar to the obesity epidemic. It is a global problam just to an individual one n what can governments do to stop / prevent it, the affects, that sort of thing???
And yes i can relate in a way to these comments, like Jerect, but not addiction thou, after I had split up with an ex he was AS n I still researeched it (i did meet another with AS but that's not for this thread).

Hope you all get what you want from watching it x

Amy - please try not to be angry at him or feel negative (easier said than done) - he may be frightened. If he is the one addicted, How would you feel if someone showed you a crack documentary when using?
Or if he is the codie he may be scared for your step mam so may be trying to prevent anxiety. Maybe record it - he may watch it at a later date, when ready.

Please don't think I'm trying to have a go at you - I think you're one of the most caring, compassionate n supportive ppl here. But when ppl are close to us we don't think clearly. It's one of the reasons that counsellors are not allowed to counsel ppl they know.

Big hugs,
Evey xxxx

I had not heard of this, so thank you LMN for posting. I will be sure to watch.

eveleivibe...my brother was addicted to prescription pain meds for 7 years and was able to fool my whole family. Never again will I allow that to happen. Nothing changes if nothing changes. Education is the first step in change.
