My dog and me!

I have a beautiful boxer dog called ruby who is 3 and a half, she has been through everything with me including late night walks to shops for more alcohol, moving out of the family home etc.

But since i have stopped drinking i realise how lucky iam to have her, she reminds me to live in the moment i mean she has never had a mind altering substance and she is super happy. She now runs with me instead of walking to the shops numerous times a night!

I think it's amazing how receptive pets are. She probably knows more about what's happening than you think and she will end up acting accordingly. I have heard lots of different stories from people about how their pets acted when they were in active addiction and when they found recovery. I wish you and Ruby the best of luck mate.

there is a thread in the gratitude section called animals we love...

I adopted Sammy ( little blond Pom) when i was 3.5 months sober the first time....he is a little bossman, but loves the cats....walking him in the morning is my little bit of meditation.

My dogs and cats are a big reason I got sober and am staying sober - so I can give them the care they need and deserve.

Hello! I can totally relate! I too have a boxer, Piper, he is 4 yrs old and he has been through it with me. He has loved me unconditionally through it all. For that i am grateful. I do have to say he knows about my struggle and seems much happier when i'm on the wagon!! Thank goodness pets are so forgiving right? Boxers especially

Have two labs at home. My best friends (except for my wife of course!)
Tomorrow we'll be bringing home a foster doggie. Another chocolate. Now we will be outnumbered! uh oh!

This thread inspired me to change my avatar. So, SR meet Lady (yellow) and Timber (chocolate)!

Love this! Yes, dogs are fantastic companions & they need so little to be happy. I think it is great that you are now running. I have been thinking of reading that new book "Running Ranson Road..." You might like it also.

My avatar is my lab, that I love so very much!

She loved me even through all of my drinking problems... But now it my turn to give her more time and attention than I used to.

What a lovely thread.

I have 2 dogs, a cat and a kitten
Stanley my border terrier helps me so much on the sober path. He is my constant companion and a naughty but nice lad to boot. He was so good the other day when I slipped on some stone steps on the way to the beach. I banged the back of my head on the stones and dropped his lead. He didn't run away to play, he sat by me until my head cleared a little and we made our way home. What a little star he was

Nellie my kitten is a recent addition to the Hexipuff Household and my wish is for never to see me drunk
Jessie Dog and Jenny Cat are older and wiser members of the furry family. I want to enjoy my time with them as much as possible and being sober means I can so that

Love all the pics of the dogs! We originally were very involved in lab rescue, and were "foster failures" more than once.....which partially explains the number of doggies we have

I can completely relate! I have a cat and four horses and now that Im beginning to get better I feel bad that I was "unavailable" to them for so long. Im starting to enjoy the little things again, and part of that for me is enjoying being with my best friends, the animals
