Novel answers for when asked why not drinking...
Perhaps we should have a thread that offers some replies as to why we might not be drinking if we are not yet ready to divulge ....
For me
1. I am aiming to stop for a month. I want to have a big detox before the festive season.
2. I have challenged myself to give up drinking for a year.

A friend of mine uses "I'm allergic to alcohol; I break out in handcuffs" on occasion :P
But I second Anna. Or "no thanks, not today"
I've encountered one guy who had an "issue" with me not drinking thus far, go figure he was pretty tipsy at the time!
I just said that I was quite happy with my diet coke and changed the subject

1. I've tried to get away from situations where drinking is going on in the first place. Having work outs with friends, going to see a movie, clubs, meeting people in AA, etc have helped a lot
2. If I have to make a reply, I always say "I'm on medication so I can't drink". Which is actually true. I was put on an antidepressant and drinking is not recommended.
but in reality, most people really dont care if you're not drinking. if they really care that much, they may have a problem themselves

Sometimes when I am tired of being quizzed I just say 'I'm breastfeeding'.
It's such a conversation stopper that people change the subject very fast.
Should imagine it would work even better (at stopping the conversation) if your a male ex drinker!
And yes I agree 'No' should be a complete answer...............

I take a whole bunch of pills to lower my blood pressure. it took ten years or more to figure out which pills to take. If I started to drink the whole thing would backfire and,if I didn't pass out on the floor then I might have a stroke or a heart attack. If I were lucky I'd die. Otherwise I'd just end up in a wheel chair, perhaps unable to feed myself or attend to my other needs.
