Cold sober friday

Living on Long Island these last two weeks has been a challenge. I lost power again yesterday afternoon.

The house is 52 degrees.

Heading out to get some dinner at my favorite pizza place. Also love the fresh mozzarella and tomatoes. Yum!

Lost everything in a packed fridge for a second time. Hmmm... Maybe I should keep the fridge door open so it gets cold in there.

But! Not drinking even though this would be a "reason" to go to the bar with power across the street.

If its still off tomorrow I am going to get a room in midtown NYC. Make it a mini vacation weekend and go to dinner out again!

I will be on SR while my iPad power lasts.

Have a happy sober Friday!

Sorry to hear about the power going out again. I was wondering if something like that would be happening to people around here. I was relatively lucky and only lost power for a couple of days, but it gave me the excuse I was for to go on a bit of a bender. So, I am happy that you were able to resist. Congratulations.

Good luck getting the power back, it sounds like everyone, including all the politicians, are putting a lot of pressure on the power companies, so maybe that will be helpful.

Thanks everyone!

Back from getting pizza. Not any warmer in the house but in bed tucked away. It's a relatively warm night so should be just fine.

And yes... I am surprised how much I just don't want a drink. I will not entertain the idea and feel damn good about it!

I like your resourcefulness. I think you should take a mini break and head for a hotel. I can't bear being cold and cannot imagine what you and a lot of your fellow Americans have give through recently.

Sazzle.... Don't for a second feel bad for me. Having no power sitting in a safe bedroom with everything I own around me is nothing compared to those with real devastation.

I hear stories of those I work with and care about that have lost all.

The temperament of the island has changed. You see a lot of good from most everyone. The sense of spirit and helpfulness is inspiring.

Doesn't mean they drive any nicer!

Very true. I was on vacation in New York at the end of Sept for a week. I loved the place and the people. So sad to hear what devastation has happened. My thoughts are with those that have lost everything.

I stayed in Chelsea. At Eventi hotel on the Avenue of Americas. I went with a friend who hardly drinks and it was the starting point of my sober journey, actually. It was the first holiday I'd had and not been drunk every night.

I saw Wicked on Broadway and thoroughly loved it. Met some crazy, friendly people and was so glad we decided on 7 days as we saw so much.

It is interesting you can get blankets for almost nothing. Than I starting tninking these guys never have power. I remember llivining inj a tent once got so cold it iced over and could not get out. now is a place with good retirement and a chance to be of service to others.

Sazzle... That's great! It's not hard to find crazy people in the city! I hope I am one.

I want to see wicked. Have seen a lot but not that one yet.

I hang out in Chelsea a lot. I also love to walk the west side by the water. Plan on going there tomorrow since I cannot do anything at home. Get a good 5or6 mile walk in.

Glad you had fun in NY. It's a cool place to be sometimes.

Ken

MCF... You deliver to the homeless? I did a lot of work with them when I lived in Maine. Met some good people.

Yes my main social work. The cooking is the tough part. But I have a crew that helps deliver.

My favourite place to hang was Bryant Park.

Loved every minute to that holiday! You must see wicked.
