Another newbie

Just want to say that this group has been a great help to me.
This will be my day one. And I plan on going to an AA meeting tonight.
That's a BIG step for me. I don't like sharing my problems with people. So I'm not looking forward to the meeting. Plus, I don't like admitting that I can't take care of this myself.
For me the trigger is when I go home from work. Something happens in my head and I just forget that I have this problem. It's like my view of the problem changes from how I see it during the day.
I'm at work so I can't post or read the posts that often but I just thought I'd say thanks to you folks for being there.

Welcome, FaveDave!

There is a lot of support and encouragement here.

Keep posting as often as you can. It's helping a lot. If not for posting here, I was not on my Day 25))

Do you have some plan to change your routines when you go home from work? Maybe, schedule gym workout, or a walk along the beach. Anything to break your everyday circle?

Take care and have a good day.

That's a good idea - the plan. I have tried having stuff lined up to do but the plan seems to run out of my head on the drive home. I swear - it's like my memory of the plan just disappears.
I tried going to the gym but then, on the drive home, I pick up some wine - my plan melts out of my head. It's like the drive home brainwashes me.
I will try again though.

Definitely try an AA meeting-I was scared and embarrassed to go my first time-but it's so easy. It hit me when I was in the room that everyone else is there for the same problem, and all admitted they were powerless over alcohol. It helped me a ton being there. You don't even have to say anything, you can just listen. Doesn't help all people, but It helped me tremendously, and is worth a shot. Just a recommendation. Good luck!!

Yeah - the meetings are the BIG step for me. But I have to go.

And I think the walk on the beach after work is a great idea to break the regular chain of events after work. I'm going to try that tonight.

Favedave, till the plan is not on paper, it is not the plan))

Write it down, keep it before your eyes. When you are driving home, tell yourself "I'll just look into the gym, wander around a little bit". Put something in your car to remind yourself about it. Focus on one day.

Good luck)

Welcome to SR Dave

I was like you in that I hated admitting that I needed help and that coming home from work was the worst time. Basically I spent all my evenings on here! And planned little things that I knew I would enjoy doing. Changing routines really helped too, even just things like shopping at a different supermarket and taking a different route home. Shaking things up a bit even in a minor way can help stop us falling back into bad habits. I hope your meeting goes well x

Yeah - I'm understanding that I need to change my routine after work. Good ideas.
I've been using drinking as my own little one man party. My reward.
Today I've written down some things to do after work and I'll give them a try to shake things up.
Thanks
