Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
I joined a few days ago. Ever since then, by just reading the stickies, I have learned more than I have in the past 3 years of my relationship with my AFLP (Alcoholic Female Life Partner) or any books I could find on alcoholism!
I read what everyone across the spectrum wrote and yet haven't even made a dent in everything written here. The result? For the past two days my smile appeared and tonight I even really laughed! To be honest, some of the things said in the stickies made everyone around me threaten to call the ambulance from the looney-bin to fetch me, because they haven't seen me laugh so much in ages! And the smile was because I realized that I'm not alone. I am part of a big family here. I'm also joining Al-anon and continuing with personal counseling.
I'm going to continue reading and share as I go along.
I want to thank everyone for bringing laughter to my life, for sharing their experiences and for walking this road a long time before me so that a light can shine on the potholes on my road forward.
Above all, I want to thank those who had the courage and conviction to start this site. I bless you!

Welcome, DocT! I remember the first time I felt uplifted after months and months of despair. It was in the rooms of Al-Anon, and someone was cracking silly jokes. Such a great feeling. And I can assure you - it is possible to feel like that on a regular basis! Just keep coming back,

I know exactly what you mean. I experienced the same feelings joining this forum. I shared many of the postings with my AH to help him understand my feelings. I joined AlAnon and my AH is in AA. He is working again and we are rebuilding our marriage one day at a time. There are no quick fixes and I have learned to take care of myself. I cannot control an alcoholics behaviour but I can support him in his recovery. Good luck.
