Hurricane party?

"Friends" text me that there is a hurricane party this afternoon. Really? I have been doing well recently. Apparently these people are very selfish.

This weekend kicked my ass with depression. My therapist recommends I see a specialist to get proper meds. I will listen as I am struggling to feel like I can stay above water. I need to ask for help. I can see things will not get better without intervention.

Knowing when to help yourself is a big deal. It takes a certain amount of humility. A certain amount courage. No one wants to say they can't do something. I certainly don't want to say that. But I have today.

I live in an old Victorian with single pane glass huge windows. The hurricane may blow them out. The are two big trees in the back that may not make it but.

No hurricane parties for this drunk!

A party doesnt have to mean booze, just company and food. Try to look at your blessings. Big hugs

Gosh. I can imagine the temptation. All my friends drink pretty heavily. If they called with a similar invite, I would have a painful time saying "no."

Maybe some good movies, good food and a nap would be a good substitute. Nothing better than a nap when it's raining.

This is not a non drinking party. The point is to get drunk. I know that. But I agree. A party can be non drinking.

I was drinking all during Irene last year. When I get out of work today I am going to prep the basement for a place to chill during the peak winds. I am scared for my family, but I am going to pick up a pizza on the way home and pray the house makes it. Stay safe Weasel.

Stay safe walking! My company closed down today. Very rare event for them but I am grateful.

I have stocked goodies. All the junk food I would normally never buy I am indulging in.

The winds are to be up to 90mph so this should be interesting.

Fandy.... Don't clean. Relax. Lol

Weasal I wish I could come hang out with you, not that I am making light of the hurricane I hope you understand. I am in a part of the UK where we never get any extreme weather, just drizzle all the time.

I think I would love to be locked away listening to the wind howl, tucked up safe. Maybe I am very naieve - I am sure I am and it is not like that at all.

Take care of yourself xx

Sasha.... I kind of like it too. I am tucked away with all that I need. Have plans to play cards if the power goes out.

This is going to be a monster storm so I will just sit tight and read posts on the iPad.

The wind is howling already.

We are closing at noon today. I am just trying to be cool and keep it together for my toddler, but I am scared of the damage that will or could happen to our house. I am praying that all will be safe. I am just so scared, and I am not much of a man as I am not the strong one during these times.

Walking. Fear of a major hurricane does not make any one of us less masculine. I am sure you will protect your family just fine. Houses are just that.

Get home safe. Try to make it fun for the little ones.

Post here as long as you have power.

K

Thanks for your post - I thought you would think I was really daft!

I love the bit in the wizrd of oz film, when the house lifts up with Dorothy in it and then smashes on top of the bad witch and kills her and Dorothy gets her ruby slippers! I imagine it's like that but then again, that's a tornado not a hurricane.....me being daft again!

Where do you stay in your hous when it comes? Do you have a room that is more secure than the others? Will your cat be with you Weasal? x

I live in Florida and know the fear of Hurricanes and people who have hurricane parties. Not this guy. I am too superstitious. I'd be filling up my tub, sandbagging, finding candles...anything...the last thing I would want to be was impaired in case something nasty happened.
