I Did It!
I Did It!
Last night I went to a wedding, a group of people, socializing, dancing, HUGE trigger for me. I went into it with a plan, read a ton of posts and SR and away I went. It turned out even better than I expected! I have not told everyone about stopping drinking, so I waited until everyone had full drinks and went to the bar by myself to ask for a yummy drink that looked like it could be alcohol but was not. I drank orange juice and cranberry juice and later tonic water and lime. When it was time for a new drink I always made sure I went alone and never had to explain myself. (I hope someday I don't mind telling people, but for now this worked). A few of my friends that I have told were there, including my husband, so it was nice to check in with them at different points in the night.
My next question was how would I be without my liquid courage to get out on the dance floor? I went out there, juice and waters in hand (that seemed to be like a little safety blanket) and had a blast dancing! So proud of myself for that! Only difference was I was done a little earlier than I would have been in the past. Usually I would have been out there until the very end, but this time I was ready to leave. Nice change. . It was also interesting to watch people get more and more drunk through out the night... good lesson thats for sure!
I had a great time, BETTER than if I had been drinking, who knew? . 28 days alcohol free today. My last drink was at a wedding too by the way, so this was a big deal for me. So happy!
This website, all your posts, is what has made the difference for me this time around! I am on here at least two times a day, and some how I always end up reading a post or blog that relates exactly to what I am going through and helps me along! Amazing, thank you all for posting, it has made such impact on my life! I'll be on everyday as I continue on this journey.
