Parenting

Hello Everyone, Single parent of 5. I'm here to seek help for my 14 year old son. He had recently been smoking "scooby snacks". What did I do wrong as a Parent that made him try this not once but he told me twice.

The age of experimentation. Why do some kids want to try things and others have no interest? I think it depends more on the kid than parenting.

"Scooby Snacks" for those who are curious, is spice, or a synthetic marijuana.

When my son was in his teens, we were very open in terms of discussing drinking and drugs. This included his circle of friends too. These conversations let me know what drugs were available and then I could talk to my son and his friends about them. I did make the difference between recreational and dangerous drugs, but also delivered the message of the risks involved in using them.

Son is in college now and we still have these conversations. Scary how much stuff is out there.

Really important to keep communication open and not be judgmental.

Yes, kids are going to do what they will. Communication is key and if you can at least just focus on keeping those avenues open things may have hope of being salvaged. Its awesome that he even shared that with you.
