Tonight is my first big challenge
Tonight the ex is taking the kids. I usually open that first bottle wine as soon as they leave. I'm afraid of being bored and lonely. I will be on here a lot this evening trying to fill this void :-(

Can you arrange for a friend to come over and keep you company?
Or maybe look up a recipe to cook something, the more complicated the better, might keep your mind off the wine...
are you into arts and crafts? or do you have any hobbies?
goodluck... i'm sure you will get lots of support on here... and after this first night is over it will get easier as you then know you can get through it without alcohol..

Thanks all....knowing you are here helps so much! I decided to focus on my studying tonight. I've let that slip the last several months and been drinking in my free time instead of using it productively.

Lab, you can do this. I've had similar hurdles recently and coming here has been very helpful. I'm now almost 90 days sober, I was a horrible binge drinker. Historically when my wife wasn't home, too would get lovenly and bored and use these nights as drinking opportunities. Ashe needs to travel from time to time for work, I need to learn how t be alone constructively. I've found that being aware of the risks of these nights has been a big start. I then go and literally abuse myself at the gym, come home clean up, make some dinner, watchtower and chat here has been a pretty darn health way to get throug these nights. After a heavy workout, booze is the last thing I crave to put in my body.
Lab, try to use the free time as an opportunity to concentrate on your needs. Studying, maybe pamper yourself a little-hot bath, paint your nails, something to make you feel good. Chocolate...I'm sure while raising kids you don't have a lot of private time, so enjoy it
Hey Lab. Every time we get over one of these hurdles we grow stronger. Reading and posting here will help relieve the anxiety you're feeling. One thing's for sure - there's no comfort or relief in drinking to numb ourselves. We know you can make it through this challenge.

Thanks everyone! I'm doing great tonight. The ex decided not to take the kids, so we are having a movie night. It's odd, normally I would have been pissed that he didn't take the kids, but I'm relieved to have them home with me. Must stay strong Saturday night....that's the next day he will have them.

Stay on here as long as you need. Know you are not alone and you have support from folks that understand. Tomorrow when you wake up you will not have a hang over and a broken mind. Keep up the good work!!!
