tough day
Hi Everyone,
Im having a tough morning...dealing with crap from my ex (I've been doing very well and moving forward but sometimes facebook show us stuff we dont want to see) as well as I have a huge gig tonight. I am performing at a big awards show gala and its going to be very hard not to have a drink to take the edge off...feel vulnerable and would love any support you may have...

Sorry Copperfield. Perhaps stay off facebook for a while. All I can say about the drinking is that it will do nothing positive for you. You need to keep your edge sharp . . . not dull it with alcohol. It is a new day today and you are sober! Think of the possibilities that you have because you aren't drunk or hungover.
Listen, you can do this. Take one breath at a time.

The best way to predict your future is to create it.
What kind of future do you wish to have?
Leave the past in the past.
Stay away from Facebook.
Why look at something to see what others are doing. Such a futile action.
Do something good, and positive for you.
Do something good and positive for someone you love or even a stranger today.
You can start your day over right now.
Tell yourself, I am having a good day.
The serenity prayer is helpful.
God, Grant me the serenity, to accept the things that I cannot change, Courage to change the things that I can, and Wisdom to know the difference.
Consider your plans for the day from a position of success, versus fear.
See yourself making it through the gig sober...
What we focus on grows.
If you want to be sober, you can be sober regardless of anyone or anything.
We just have to put the work in.
If you are unsure as to what the work is that helps us...I use the program of AA outlined in the big book. I listen to AA speakers downloaded to my walkman. I stay close to SR, and I call women from AA to talk with, when I cannot figure life out.
It's gonna be a good day. You get to have a good day. You create it. No one can take it from us. Ask your HP for help, and keep it movin.

Hi Copperfield,
A number of people here have stayed away from Facebook because of the issues it can bring up. You need to do whatever it takes to care for yourself at this point. Know that you are able to get through this and getting through the day will make you stronger.

Amen to that.
Deleting my FB account was one of the first things I did when I decided I wanted to be sober. I've never regretted it, I don't miss the emptiness, egotistical, self-indulgent arrogant falseness.

I found Facebook was just an excuse often for me to relapse as there was always stories of my friend's amazing parties, everyone saying how hungover they were, drama, etc. I have avoided it like the plague!
Good luck with the gig Copperfield!

Good luck with the gig Copperfield. You will perform better without that drink. Don't let the Alcoholic voice win. It is grasping at straws right now. Put it in it's place. When I quit drinking, I felt like I needed to re approach playing the guitar in a different way. Like something was missing. 4 months later I realize how much drinking was keeping me from growing as a player. Just stick with it.

Don't let it discourage you. I am back from a hiatus here that involved drinking that I wasn't proud of at all. But, I am trying to not beat myself up about it as long as I am making an effort again. Starting over sucks, but it is better than not starting at all, right?
Good luck!
Good luck!
