If you could only tell a newcomer one thing?

Like the title suggests. If you met someone at their first meeting and only had the opportunity to tell them one thing before they left the meeting what would it be? And to make it more interesting it can only be one sentence.

Mine would be:

This is the way out.

Natom.

two things that were said to me at my first meeting have stuck with me

"We do recover"
and
"You never have to use drugs again"

these were said to me by someone who clearly had the experience and authority to speak those words.

I'm not an AA/NAer but just as I was told when I got here, I've told many people since that it gets better as long as we stay in recovery

I don't go to meetings but I would add to be true to yourself. It doesn't matter what others think about you.

Don't drink and keep coming back. It
works if you work it.

I am not AA either but I rather like this:

"First you take a drink, then the drink takes a drink, then the drink takes you."

"Keep coming back"

Then I tell him something else next time I see him.

I'm not in AA either, but if I could tell a newcomer one thing it would be this: "It DOES get better."

I would tell them "you never have to feel this way again"

You ARE worth it, even if sometimes you feel like you're not.

Meeting makers make meetings and step takers find recovery.

"One day at a time."

That one really hit home for me. Keep the focus short, on the now, on the reachable goals. Don't make a mountain that is the future. Celebrate small victories. I was able to infer all of these things from that one simple statement and realize the value of it.

Living free of alcohol transforms your experiemce of life very much like living in the bloom of new found love.
