So glad to find this site
Hi I'm Greg, I've been suffering from alcoholism for about 10 years. Have been in and out of AA for about 4 years but seem to keep relapsing. I've had problems with the steps, sponsors and the higher power concept in general.
I consider myself a Buddhist, and as there is no God in Buddhism I thought this site would suit me.
I was talking to a well respected Zen master on what he might think a higher power would be, he replied bluntly that there is no higher power other than your own true nature. Could this be my higher power?
Do you have meetings on this site?

Welcome to SR Greg (I love blackadder )
I have no idea about your question, but if you have been in and out of AA for a long time struggling with that concept maybe you could approach sobriety from a different direction. Have you looked into AVRT or SMART before? x

welcome to our family!
There is a secular portion on this site that explains other approaches to sobriety than AA. There are also some members who are in AA, but have a different view of their higher power than the traditional one (even atheists!) so I think you can find a lot of help on here that will suit what you need.

Yes, there are meetings in the chat room. Look at the chat forum for days and times. Or just go into the chat room any time you like.

((Greg)) - Welcome to SR! When I came here, I knew very little about Buddhism, but have learned quite a bit from many people here. Same with native American beliefs. I do believe in God, but I've learned to expand my horizons That's what I love about SR - we come from all walks in life, different beliefs, but we have a common problem with addiction/alcoholism.
Hugs and prayers,
Amy
