2 days sober
Hi guys. I am not 'new' but I have had a major relapse. I have been in and out of sobreity since January, with varying degrees of success and failing. The relapses are getting worse....and I have been in hospital this time after severely self-harming. I am 24 but feel like I have one foot in the grave, and I don't want it. I am losing my job as my depression intensifies (I am a teacher who is signed off) and despite my constant failings I have a loving partner, family, friends...and yet I can't get it. But I called two friends in the Fellowship who came to see me in hospital, one who has said he will be my temporary sponsor. I just feel like I will never get this...and I want to so desperately. I can feel the love of my family around me so much....they are desperate for me to get well, and so am I. But I keep failing...I can really see this killing me. I guess I need some help.

Dear BlueEyedBoy,
as you are not new, I presume you have had lots of advice thrown at you already here on SR but it sounds as if you do need serious help right nowx
All I can add is: please reach out to as many help outlets that you have available to you. You are young, you have a wonderful job as a teacher that I am sure you cherish as well as a loving entourage of family and friends.
You can get back on track.

As it says in How It Works "We stood at the turning point".
I had to commit to AA, not just be involved on an as needed basis. Time to turn to your H.P.
All the best.

Being stubborn headed and not wanting
anyone to tell me what to do, Ive failed
so many times in trying to quit drinking.
I failed because I thought I could do it on
my own and failed because my will never
worked.
So, when i entered rehab through family
intervention, it was them getting me help
I so desperately needed at that time in my
life when I could no longer help myself. I
learned to hush up and listen. To listen to
the way recovery works if I wanted to stay
sober. To follow direction from many who
learned themselves how to stay sober a day
at a time.
I was handed the tools and knowledge of my
alcoholism and stayed close to others following
in their footsteps so I could stay sober. I also
realized that I never had to go through anything
in life alone or by myself. That I didnt have to
go thru recovery by myself and that the fellowship
in recovery would and could carry me thru the
process until I was strong and confident enough
to stay sober with a program of recovery incorperated
in my everyday life by myself.
My journey in recovery began 22 yrs ago and Im
still on it passing on my own experiences, strengths
and hopes of what my life was and is like before,
during and after alcohol.
That is one of many ways I have learned
to stay sober for a many one days at a time
added together to get me where I am today.
It can be for you too.

Welcome back BEB
I'm sorry to see you're still struggling tho.
I think the best thing to do is reach out - get as much support and help as you can...AA, friends, family...maybe counselling if you think you need it and that's an option.
Plugging yourself in here regularly too is a great help for a lot of us.
