New to sb
This is all very new and strange to me. I'm not sure where to start. I hope I'm in the right place, and hope I fit in if it's meant to be. For now I'd like to applaud all of you who are trying to stay well. I drink to get some relief from my ocd and because I'm alcoholic. There, I started!
Welcome! This is definitely a good start. Admitting to yourself you have a problem is what separates you from certain death. Nobody will judge you here. They are all very nice and can relate to you. Read some posts around here. Check out other peoples stories. See if you feel if this is the place for you. Welcome again!

Hi. New to this site. I drank for over 20 years, heavily. By the last year I was up to 20 or so beers a day. I had to start as soon as I got up and continue at least one per hour to function at all. I quit cold turkey almost 3 years ago and had a terrible withdrawal. I was rushed to hospital in an ambulance and put under for 2 days.
I was warned that if I fell of the wagon, the withdrawal would be worse. I swore I never would, but about 4 weeks ago I did.
I need to stop, but I am afraid of the withdrawal. I am back up to about 10 drinks a day. Should I try cold turkey, ween myself off slowly or try meds?
Any help would be great. Thanks

I second Mrs King. Paying if you have to to see a Doc up front, beats paying if you have to for an extended stay in an emergency again.
You have described me before quitting only I was drinking a bit more per hour to stay upright the last two years.
MY solution after reading many stories like your's of your first detox was simple. I qualified for a seven day in hospital detox with the VA, and I did that for safety and to get a jump start with the chemicals out of my body. Perhaps you can find something for in hospital detox you qualify for too.
