What's Your Song?
I need some new tunes. So hey, hook me up! It doesn't have to be a recovery song, but that's a great bonus. I love ALL music. Rap, country, anything. Rock. Metal. Tell me what you are playing. Might help me stay sober to have some tunes.
SFMS, that's crazy you started this thread, because this morning at work I was thinking about starting the same thread! Great minds think alike! Lol. What made me think of this was that I was listening to the Howard Jones song, "things can only get better." I liked this song before, but listening to it as someone in recovery gave it a new meaning for me.
"and do you feel scared/I do/ but I won't stop and falter/and if we throw it all away/things can only gt better."
I interpreted "it" in the lyric as alcohol! I don't think that's what Howard Jones had in mind, but I like that reading of the song!
I've got others I'll post when I think of them.

Eminem's album "recovery" has songs about his recovery. I just listened to the song, "love the way you lie" and interpreted the "you" as the alcoholic voice.... Interesting. "just gonna stand there and watch me cry/that's alright because I love the way you lie."

Cat Power's version of 'Moonshiner'. Many people have covered this song, but hers is my favorite version.
I've been a moonshiner For seventeen long years
I spent all my money On whisky and beer
I go to some hollow
And set up my holy, holy still
If drinking do not kill meThen I don't know what will
I go to some bar room
And drink with my friends
See if women and men would come to follow
To see what I might spend
God bless them handsome men
I wish they was mine
Their breath is as sweet as The dew on the holy, holy vine
You're already in hell, you're already in hell
I wish we could go to hell
When the bottle gets empty
And life ain't worth the drown
I've been a moonshiner For seventeen long years
I spent all my money On whisky and beer
I go to some hollow
And set up my holy, holy still
If drinking do not kill meThen I don't know what will
I go to some bar room
And drink with my friends
See if women and men would come to follow
To see what I might spend
God bless them handsome men
I wish they was mine
Their breath is as sweet as The dew on the holy, holy vine
You're already in hell, you're already in hell
I wish we could go to hell
When the bottle gets empty
And life ain't worth the drown
Ok one more then I gotta get back to work!
A little more obscure, but "it's a beautiful world," by Colin Hay. He was the lead singer of the band Men at Work, and now has a solo career. He was an alcohlic and is now many years sober.
"And still this emptiness persist
Perhaps this is as good as it gets
I've given up the drink
And those nasty cigarettes
I leave the party early
But at least with no regrets
I watch the sun as it comes up
I watch it as sets
Yes, this is as good as it gets."

'Baker, Baker' is so good too!
'He says that behind my eyes I'm hiding
And he tells me I pushed him away
That my hearts been hard to find....
You came to make sure
That I'm not running
Well I ran from hime
In all kinds of ways
Guess it was his turn this time'
Love those lyrics!
