Sobriety is SUPER!

Two weeks sober today and I am feeling SUPER! Why-oh-why did I not quit drinking YEARS ago? I am sleeping so well, have so much more energy and my mood is totally lifted! No cravings. None.

In fact I attended a birthday party this weekend and there was both beer and wine (not a drunken-type party, just a social event with a glass of wine or two) When asked if I would like a glass of wine, I simply said "no thanks" and truly enjoyed the party without alcohol. It was not difficult or even tempting. I swear a switch has been flipped in my brain!

I am sure my nutritional program has a lot to do with it--100% whole grain, lots of organic fruits, veggies, lean protein, dairy and nuts--nothing processed, nothing artificial, no growth hormones, no GMO ingredients. If a food does not have real nutritional value, it doesn't go into my body. Period.

Just wanted to check in with an update and to try to encourage some newbies. Sobriety is possible and it feels great!

On a side note, I go to my gastro-intestinal specialist today for a consult on how to deal with my Hep C. I am feeling nervous but hopeful. Wish me luck!

Congrats!! Yes, the diet in my opinion makes so much difference in recovering. Someone (sugarbear maybe?) posted with an article about nutrition/addiction/recovery this morning that is really, really good.

Glad you are feeling well.

Thanks for the encouragement!

I read the article Sugarbear posted and it was fantastic--almost exactly what I have been doing (at the insistence of my dr) and it is making SUCH a difference. I've tried quitting before and could not get past a few days--and every one of those days was a struggle!

I am convinced that my nutritional program combined with meditation and gentle yoga is what is making all the difference!

I hit two weeks today and i feel exactly the same way! Well, the first week not so much, but now, WOW! I'm eating super healthy too, and I agree it does make a huge difference. Sugarbears post was very helpful. My poor body. I cringe to think how I abused it for so long. Now I just have to quit the smokes and cut down on the caffeine. Sigh. Well, first things first.
So congrats to you I'm glad you re feeling so good, and to those who have recently quit but still feel lousy, try to be patient, you will feel better sober!

Well done, and I cannot agree more. Congratulations. You and I have within this month decided to take back control. That is the best feeling in the world. You are right that eating and relishing the things that nourish your body (and mind) are key. I also have resorted to some guilty pleasures: a ridiculously delicious hot corned beef sandwich and swiss on rye, just to savor something that not only is wickedly good but also will give my body something better to work with. I agree that the lean proteins, the whole grains, and the overall healthy diet has been working wonders. I admit to sneaking in guilty pleasures like the above--oh, and some Halloween candy here and there. How much better is all of this than drinking to oblivion, the self recriminations, and the endless cycles of unhealthiness? Thanks for sharing.

Hey, SG. Glad you are feeling great. And nutrition, meditation and yoga are fantastic ways to expand your sobriety.

I don't mean to be so fatalistic (I am by default), but what is your plan when sobriety sucks?

Congrats on 2 weeks, it's 2 weeks for me today as well. The changes in my life have been sooooo awesome! Not puking, sleeping well, and the energy boost is GREAT! My day starts at 5:00AM and I don't get back home until after 10:00PM due to a night IOP. Were I drinking and trying to hold that type of schedule, things would be really bad, and I'm quite sure it would just all fall apart. I look forward to having time to exercise after the schedule calms down, but my day is very full and it helps me not to have "thoughts"
