Keeping it simple

I'm a great believer in keeping things as simple as I can in my life wherever I can. I also like to think that as I'm getting a little older I'm also becoming a little wiser and know the various warning signs of ending up 'down the wrong path'.

Keeping it simple has really helped me in this sobriety attempt. We can all think of a hundred reasons why we shouldn't drink (all of which are valid) and once we're into early stages of sobriety can think of a hundred reasons to start drinking again (all of which are not valid).

So this time, I took a different approach. Of all the reasons I could think of not to drink I picked just one that I could use when things got tough, and it was this.....

I'm approximately half way through my life, do I want to spend the next half doing what I did in the first?

Everyone will have their own 'special' reason but this is helping me. Keeps it simple and ends the debate I have with myself.

10 weeks sober today. Keep it simple!

I'm living on borrowed time, I might as well make the best of it! Plus, things are so much better than ever today! I feel okay with me, there is no need to indulge in liquid courage or self-medication today.

I have no need for alcohol today.

Enjoy another sober day!!

Dear Julynine,

you sound very strong and focused.

You want a better second half than the first...and who doesn't :>

You are going to get it from what I read here.

Thanks for this inspiring post.

I am downsizing our literal *stuff.* House rule is, for everything one thing that comes in, two must go out.

I am working on downsizing the figurative *stuff.* This means not taking on too much so I can treasure little moments as they happen.

My attempt at simplicity.

Thanks for your post.

Well I guess making things simple for me has been just being a lot more honest with myself and others. Heck knows all the lying and deception during a binge is a lot of work to keep stories as straight as possible in ones head. Not having to do all that work makes my life a lot simpler and right away. Now maintaining that honesty is a work in progress but a clear warning sign is , if I am lying I am off the beam.

A mandatory element of Alcoholism is Lying and Deception. Getting past the Denial and being totally Honest can be quite painful but simultaneously quite Liberating.

When the lying and deception stops life automatically becomes more simple! It's hard to live a lie every day.

Too much work for me. I'm Lazy that way. Plus the Blackouts make keeping the Lies Straight (including where I hid my Stash bottles) too Confusing.
