Have you tried AA? What steps did you take to stay sober?

For some, unfortunately, it seems to take more pain to get sober than for others. I don't know why. But don't give up. Start again today.

I know it can feel hopeless Shygirl but sometimes it's just a matter of getting the right help. What have you tried before?

Hi Shygirl,
I couldn't stay stopped without some kind of support, I chose AA and SR, they have kept me sober of over 14 months. I can't stress enough the need for support of people who have went through what you are going through and understand.

I can hear your pain, you can get through this and lead a sober life.

Love

Hi ShyGirl - welcome back

I tried for 15 years to stop so I know how you feel.

I think, no matter what method you choose, you need to stick with it - you need to be determined....you need to have the hunger and desire for change.

Drinking can no longer be a viable option.

What do you think is holding you back and keeping you drinking, shygirl?

D

Don't feel like a failure, you don't fail until you stop trying. Have you got a sense of why AA wasn't helping you? There are alternatives too, like SMART or AVRT. I have found that having one on one sessions with someone who specialises in addiction really useful for me. Maybe that is something you could try? x

Keep the faith. You're not alone. I've seen many people struggle but they don't give up and finally get some peaceful sobriety in their lives.

It may help to identify what triggers you to pick up each time.

When you say you tried AA does that mean you got a sponsor and did the steps?
AA is not just about attending meetings it's a program that does work if you do it.
I wasn't enthusiastic about meetings at the beginning and didn't really take in what was required of me and that was the program. It would take me all day to get to a meeting in the next city. It meant leaving home at 7am and getting back at 10pm but I knew in my heart I needed the meetings and would go to any length to get sober.
My final craving after 5 months and a spiritual change has made being sober so much easier. I have no interests in alcohol whatsoever and any thoughts of a drink when I am under stress are fleeting. My life has become managable.
Others on this forum have got sober using other methods try them all just keep trying.
Love
