newbie ... love this site

i just found this site yesterday, and i feel compelled to start a thread thanking everyone for how helpful and inspirational it is. I have been sober for a month, and the feeling that you are alone in your struggle is one of the worst parts of it. Reading story after story of folks who have walked in my shoes and can relate to my pain is a tremendous relief. I wish i had found you earlier when trying to quit, but i am happy to be here now.

when i have more time, i want to explain my story and elaborate on the challenges you face the further along you get. i have found that I am more vulnerable to a relapse several months down the road than i am in the first couple of weeks. I suppose you get confident and forget how bad you hated yourself when you last fell down ? I would love to hear what long term strategies others have found helpful once you get past the first couple of months ...

again, thanks to all for this wonderful resource.

Welcome doublej,
I am glad you found the site. Great job on 1 month sober. You will find a lot of information and support here. Take some time and look around at the different forums. There is all kinds of info on many different programs.

You asked about ways to stay sober long term, past the first couple of months. I found joining the May thread, (the month I quit) helped me to stay accountable to myself and others who I now call close friends. I also found AVRT helped me. There is a free online course. If you are interested PM me and I will send you a link.
