15 days sober and a tough weekend...

Hey, everyone! I didn't get a chance to log on this weekend because I was so busy (which is a good thing). That being said, this weekend was a tough one for me. Hubby and I are very stressed right now trying to get our old house ready to put on the market since we bought a new home earlier this year in April. Between our fulltime jobs + working on two house during the weekends, we have been burning the candle at both ends for quite some time now. We are both stressed to the max and have been short with eachother and arguing a lot lately. Drives a gal to drink....ALMOST. I can't tell you how many times I wanted to just grab a beer and chug it to take the edge off. But I didn't. I resisted. I perservered. :-) Hubby and I have also been having some deep conversations about things...things that happen in every marriage. I hate having such conversations but it sure is better than drowning my sorrows with booze and ignoring the elephant in the room. Someone close to me once said, "Sometimes you just have to have the tough conversations." He was right.

Good for you. It will amaze you what you can face when sober. I've heard people go through some heartbreaking or stressful situations and face them sober. Eventually the idea to drink doesn't even come up

You're doing the right thing, and because of that you are getting things accomplished. Communication is good too! Way to go & persevere.

Thanks for your kind words, mecanix. I hate facing the facts some times, but it must be done in this new "grown up" world that I'm living in. Time to get it out and quit letting it fester!

Hi Pippo

firstly congratulations on day 15, that is brilliant especially considering all the stress you've had.

It's good that you're having those deep and meaningful conversations, communication is very important in a relationship and will keep you close. You can speak rationally too when sober and also remember what you've said. It's good stuff.

You're doing so well, stay stron

Gxx

bryangt - You said, "You're doing the right thing, and because of that you are getting things accomplished." You know, I never thought about it like that, but you are so right!!! I know in my heart of hearts that I could never do this without being sober.

GRACE!!! I thought about you all weekend. :-) Hope all is well in your world. You said, "You can speak rationally too when sober and also remember what you've said. It's good stuff." Dang, isn't that the truth?!?!

Yes, it is so much better to deal with the things that are bothering us. It sounds like you have a lot going on, so I'm glad you got through the weekend.

Yes, Anna, a lot going on...TOO MUCH going on, really, which is a huge part of the problem. We have over extended ourselves. We'll get through it as I think there is light at the end of the tunnel. At least I'm not looking through the bottom of a beer bottle this time around. :-)

Glad you survived the hard weekend. The worst thing about drinking to avoid stress is that usually the situation is more stressful afterwards and then you have to deal with it AND a hangover. Stay strong.

You are putting on foot in front of the other. I like it. Good job in dealing with all that's on your plate. You got this!
