Day 7 and I had a really huge insight yesterday

Last night I went to a Labor day BBQ at a friends house and it was great I didn't even have an urge to drink especially with all the pressure from friends that are used to me partying like a rock star.

Crazy thing was that being the first time being sober in environment like that and actually watching everyone get progressively worse through the night, and how stupid they looked by the end of the party. They all kept saying to me I'm not even drunk yet, and I was thinking to myself "yeah right your acting like a moron" Really made me realize what I was doing to myself all along.

I am glad you made it through the party without incident.

I would caution you, though, about putting yourself in situations where there is drinking and, worse, pressure to drink from our peers. A volatile mix.

I would suggest that the insight you take away from this is how lucky you were this time.

Continued good luck...

Well done, but one thing I learnt early on was - if you don't want to slip up, don't go to slippery places!

I was thinking the same thing. I've been in three situations where (some) drinking was occurring these first 40 days, but they were all safe environments. There's definitely a lot of places I'm not going any time soon. We should be mindful about subjecting ourselves to additional temptation.

I totally agree I shouldn't keep hanging around the fire unless I want to get burned. Just felt bad canceling on friends when I already committed to being there.

It's wonderful to get those new perspectives isn’t it. What you see does depend on where you stand.

I just had 2 calls Sunday on the AA hotline from 2 different women. Both were at a party and "somehow" ended up drinking...suddenly that drink was in their hand and that was all she wrote.....

That's awesome you didn't drink! Don't get complacent though, that craving for alcohol sometimes comes out of no where.
