As mentioned in another thread, my longtime live-in A partner left earlier this week. He went to stay with family. I miss him, I was a wreck for the first few days, but am slowly coming around and starting to be better. I think I went a whole hour this morning without thinking of him. Then I got an email from his family member saying he'd had a seizure and is in intensive care. I'm falling apart all over again. Even though we're no longer together I still care about him and am concerned for him. But I'll get through this. (Right?)

Yes, you will get through this. Yes, you are allowed to care about him,
just from a distance.

Sounds like he was trying to detox on his own without medical assistance
or he just hadn't had anything to drink for a while and his 'maintenance
level' got low.

Who knows, maybe this will be his 'wake up' call or maybe not.
