First time here

Hi, this is my first time on this site and I'll try not to waffle too much!! I am a 36 year old woman with a 19 year alcohol addiction and I've reached the end of the line. I've had periods of sobriety, been in and out of rehab and been detoxed many times but I stupidly embarked on a two week bender recently (will be quitting tomorrow) and I can't believe how easy it was to fall back into my old ways. I'm destroying my family and can't bear how much pain I've caused them. I'm crying as I write this. I've cut right back today and will continue to do that tomorrow before giving it yet another go. Any support or advice anyone can give me would be appreciated.

Just remembering that the first drink leads to a drunk. The first drink cause us to have a craving that will not stop with one drink. So it's not taking the first drink. You gotta take it a moment at a time. It's best to work a program.. Alcoholics Anonymous has saved my life, I have a sponsor and other female AA members who I can call as a network of help and love I can reach out for.. These ladies have saved me from picking up as well as commiting suicide... I need this program along with my mental health physician..

Hello TM75:

I found sobriety in the 12 Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous.

I wish you the best.

Hi TM,

I used SMART Recovery and Rational Recovery's AVRT to stay stopped. The only way I know to stop drinking . . . is just to stop drinking. You know what it is like and it isn't much fun the first week. But neither is drinking when you drink like we do.

Post here when you can. We care and want you to get better.

Welcome to the family! It's a good decision to live sober. Sober is so much better.

I needed to believe that I had the ability to stop drinking in order to do it. Sorta like swimming for me, I guess, I can remember jumping into the deep end of the pool with that fear of the water jumping in with me. Swimming got easier of course, and now I don't question my ability, but those first few times really needed that confidence in myself.

I believe that you can do this, TM75, I really do. Just know in your heart that you can.

Welcome TM75. Congratulations on making this big change in your life. I wish I had when I was in my 30's. I kept going, trying to control it, until my life fell apart.

I did ridiculous things while drinking - said things I never meant and still can't believe it was me who acted that way. I had a drink in my hand 24/7 in the end - and it was never enough to make me high or happy. All I felt was misery. This won't be you! You can leave that old life behind and have a beautiful new one in it's place.

Welcome! You are in a great place. I have only used this and AVRT for my recovery.. and so far I am at 85 days. You really have to want to quit, and it's really hard, but it can happen!! I am wishing you the best.

Welcome. A lot of new UK members lately. I can't add much to what has already been said but there is a ladies only forum if you'd find that helpful.
