Coda meetings

I'm wondering if Coda meetgings are only for those who have codependency issues with addicts or for people who get involved with others' problems where alcohol/drugs are not involved? I would like to hear experience from those who attended Coda meetings. Thank you

They are for any kind of "co-dependency" issues . . .but are they extinct now?

I was reading something about narcissists, and the loved ones of narcissists, and a lot of the vocabulary (i.e., enabler) is the same.

I agree choublak. The narcissist and the addict are both so self centered, they cannot see anyone beyond their own nose. Anyone who gets in their way to what they want are in for a world of hurt.

I've been to a few CODA meetings on the West side of the country. They focus specifically on co-dependent relationships, instead of the al-anon generic approach for any one who is affected by a friend or family member. The meetings I went to were very positive and the people very friendly. A lot like any other 12 step group I've been to.

Not extinct, but thriving.

CoDA was my home fellowship for many years when I lived in Toronto. Our group had more than 30 at every meeting and other meetings were springing up all over.

It's a wonderful 12-step fellowship, similar to Al-anon and Nar-anon but included many members who had issues with codependency unrelated to addictions...some dealing with mental health issues, some with overbearing loved ones, stalkers, control issues (either controlling or being controlled) and I found it helpful as I needed help for ME, to learn how to have healthy relationships with everyone in my life, not just my addicted loved one.

This link has a place where you can find meetings everywhere.
